Beyond the Backpack 2025 A Success

The Community Impact Network (Network) recently participated in the annual Beyond Housing Beyond the Backpack event, held at Lucas Crossing Middle School on August 9., continuing their tradition of providing students in the Normandy Schools Collaborative with a one stop shop for their back-to-school needs.

The event drew more than 2,000 K-12 students, with backpacks filled with school supplies, new footwear, as well as services such as haircuts, physicals and dental services at no cost to families.

The Network, in collaboration with Sneakers With Soul , a local non-profit that provides new, quality name brand shoes to children and youth in need in the St. Louis area.Network staff distributed approximately 830 pairs of shoes to students.

According to a poll in New York Magazine, parents typically spend between $40 to $60 for a high-quality pair of kids’ shoes. For families who have school-aged children, this cost can be a daunting one, especially for families with multiple children. Beyond the Backpack provides resources so that both families and children can put their minds at ease as the new school year gets underway.
