Social media training focuses on graphics, authenticity

On March 5, 2025, the Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition posted a photo of 12-year-old Tayana to its Facebook page. The post received nearly 10,000 views, the majority of which were from people who didn’t follow the organization’s account.

This post was an example of the organization, which is a Network member, expanding its reach on social media and building its brand. Emily Baumann, the strategic communications manager at the Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition, spoke to other Network members on March 13 about how they too can use social media to expand their reach.

The training, titled “Transforming Your Social Media Brand Through Graphics,” covered the basics of Canva (a free design website for nonprofits), social media strategy and expanding a social media audience.

“When you post authentic content, you will receive more engagement,” Baumann said. “When you put content in front of your audience that inspires them and reminds them of why they support you in the first place, they’re going to feel proud and excited to share it, because it’s one small thing they can do to support your work. It’s super easy to click, to like, to share.”

Below, you can watch the video of the training, scroll through Baumann’s presentation and learn more about her background.
