Volunteers Pack More Than 2,500 Backpacks for Beyond the Backpack

Thanks to the support of dedicated volunteers, community partners and Network staff, more than 2,500 backpacks were packed in preparation for the annual Beyond the Backpack event scheduled for Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Normandy Early Learning Center and Lucas Crossing Middle School.

Volunteers came together to sort, organize and pack backpacks that will be distributed to families in the community to prepare students and families for a great start to the school year. Beyond the Backpack is more than a school supply drive; it is a collaborative effort to connect families with resources, services and community partners while helping students begin the school year with confidence.

The Network is grateful to everyone who dedicated their time and energy to ensuring the packing days were a success. The support of our volunteers and community is an important part of making Beyond the Backpack possible each year.

Students who are attending Normandy Schools Collaborative for the 2026-27 school year and planning to attend Beyond the Backpack on August 8 are encouraged to pre-register for the event here. Completing the form does not guarantee receipt of school supplies, shoes, haircuts, or any other event services.
