Network Participates in Wellston Clean Up

On Saturday, March 28, the Community Impact Network (Network) joined residents and partners in the City of Wellston for a neighborhood cleanup rooted in restoration, prevention, and community care.
Earlier in the month, a devastating wildfire burned multiple homes, leaving behind both visible damage and ongoing safety concerns. In response, the Network collaborated with Beyond Housing, Equity Homes, RISE St. Louis, the St. Louis County Housing Authority and the City of Wellston to take meaningful action.
Nearly 30 volunteers of all ages gathered at Wellston City Hall that morning, united by a shared goal of making their community safer.
Volunteers arrived ready to work, bringing their own tools, while Beyond Housing provided additional equipment, including chainsaws. Together, they focused on removing potential fire hazards, clearing dead tree limbs, cutting back overgrowth, and collecting trash.
“We wanted to respond to this tragedy and prevent it from happening again,” Carolyn Fleasaker, Community Investment Project Manager at the Network said. “That meant removing anything that could pose a fire risk.”
From 9 a.m. to noon, the work was steady and purposeful. What might have taken days was accomplished in just a few hours through shared effort and coordination.
The cleanup concluded with lunch provided by the Network, giving volunteers time to connect and reflect after a morning of meaningful work. The result: a safer, cleaner space for the Wellston community.
